It’s ironic how sometimes I wish my classes were tougher…

and it just got me thinking. I think too often I, or people in general, overlook the fact that we’re all mortal. We are all running on limited time and eventually we’re going to start losing people that are dear to us. It scares me that one day my grandma, my parents, or anyone close to me for that matter, might pass away. It really does…
I’m going to remind myself to not take people for granted.
This Calvin and Hobbes strip is great for so many reasons. Despite being a children’s comic, CH discusses a serious issue of success and failure and the means of obtaining these two counterparts. The two lines that stuck out to me were “Still, in the real world, people care about success… Then again, maybe that’s why the world is in such a mess.” and “Anymore, simply acknowledging the issue is a moral victory.” The first quote is prominent simply because it focuses on such a complex problem of contemporary society which seems to value ‘success’ far too much. I like the second quote because it ends the strip quite nicely and recognizes the fact that as individuals, there’s little we can do to exact the change that we might want to, but at least we can do our small part.

I hate the duality of my nature
I hate hate hate it when I’m a hypocrite
Is it to save yourself? Or is it to save them?
Is it to purge your own guilt? Or is it because you care?
Is it out of pity? Or is it out of affection?

I will not mistake your kindness for weakness; I will not mistake your steadfastness in your beliefs and morals for stupidness.
You are bouncing a ball, perhaps a handball, and your friend is nearby.
*thud* *thud* *thud*
And all of a sudden your friend goes all out ballistic on your ass, screaming for you to “STOP BOUNCING THE MOTHERFUCKING BALL, YOU FUCK.”
Pause.
Before you knock the lights out of him/her, think.
It makes no sense for your friend to act that way. Chances are that he or she is irritated by some outside problem, which causes them to act irrationally.
Instead, ask them what’s wrong
